Monochrome is a series of generative colour schemes. With this project, Coen explores the mathematics behind digital representations of colour. Similar to sound, colour can be described as a set of waves with an amplitude and a frequency. These waves are caught by the eye, and interpreted by the brain as colours.

The base information of colours can be represented in three dimensions: hue, saturation and lightness. Monochrome generates colours by taking a plane with constant hue in the space created by these three dimensions, and sampling equidistant points on a straight line in this plane. By using linearity, the algorithm ensures a simple relationship between the colours, resulting in pleasurable, calm colour combinations.
