Unplug is an interactive audiovisual composition created by Eunsong Shin, Lars Hogenboom and Coen Konings. The piece explores the phenomenon of information overload: a feeling of overwhelm, caused by overstimulation of the senses and often associated with excessive consumption of digital media.
Our lives have become more and more intertwined with complex systems like the internet. These systems seem to have developed some kind of sentience of their own, and behave almost like an organism or ecosystem. This unpredictability is enticing, but the resulting lack of control can be difficult to manage. As with most complex systems, it is sometimes better left alone.
Unplug has been exhibited at De Nijverheid (Utrecht, the Netherlands) and Eau Mont Jardin festival (Omont, France).
